Episode #11

Key Verses or Passages: Esther 8:8-13

****Verse 8:Now write another decree in the king’s name in behalf of the Jews as seems best to you, and seal it with the king’s signet ring —for no document written in the king’s name and sealed with his ring can be revoked.”

At once the royal secretaries were summoned—on the twenty-third day of the third month, the month of Sivan. They wrote out all Mordecai’s orders to the Jews, and to the satraps, governors and nobles of the 127 provinces stretching from India to Cush. These orders were written in the script of each province and the language of each people and also to the Jews in their own script and language.

****Verse 10: Mordecai wrote in the name of King Xerxes (Zurk seez) sealed the dispatches with the king’s signet ring, and sent them by mounted couriers, who rode fast horses especially bred for the king.

****Verse 11:The king’s edict granted the Jews in every city the right to assemble and protect themselves; to destroy, kill and annihilate the armed men of any nationality or province who might attack them and their women and children, and to plunder the property of their enemies.

****Verse 12: The day appointed for the Jews to do this in all the provinces of King Xerxes (Zurk Seez) was the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar. A copy of the text of the edict was to be issued as law in every province and made known to the people of every nationality so that the Jews would be ready on that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.

Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day

Devotion write up:

If you don’t know this. I am a huge Marvel Movie fan and have read many of the older comics from the 80s & 90s. I adore Spider-Man to Black Panther to Captain America! I’m obsessed! My favorite movie was Endgame which had a huge climax scene where Captain America for the first time ever yelled out to all his peers/super hero’s, “Avengers! Assemble!”

If you have seen that scene...oh it just makes you wanna cry & cheer all at the same time. My gosh! lol

Anyways After that famous line...

Basically everyone from every marvel movie world came together to fight the evil villain, Thanos. What a sight to see! If you want to see the clip. Click in the notes for the full effect. Start at 3:10 on the video for the moment but the entire 4 min is worth a watch!

Anyways, shift our focus to the key passage Esther 8:8-13. I’m going to read verse 8,10,11 & 12 today. Anyways let’s read...

****Verse 8:Now write another decree in the king’s name in behalf of the Jews as seems best to you, and seal it with the king’s signet ring —for no document written in the king’s name and sealed with his ring can be revoked.”

While reading Esther 8:8-13 I immediately thought of that Avengers movie. First off, i recommend reading the book of Esther. It is riveting! I wish I could lay out the entire plot but I don’t have the time right now. So here’s the quick overview, To refresh your memory, Haman who was an advisor to the King of Persia, used the king’s signet ring to write a law that would destroy & kill the Jewish population without the king’s full understanding. Queen Esther exposed his plot to kill and annihilate all the Jews in the Persian Empire. Remember Esther was Jewish and Haman as well as the King didn’t know it. After, the king had Haman killed but he still refused  to reverse the law because when a law is made by the king and his ring, it cannot be reversed. So instead the king gave Esther and her uncle, Mordecai the authority to create another law to save their people. So they did.

The new law stated that the Jewish population has the right to assemble and defend themselves on the 13th day of the 12th month of Adar throughout the entire empire. When I first read that I was like...What?! Crazy to comprehend.

So what does a Marvel movie have to do with the book of Esther? Think about it. The avengers assembled to take on their enemy their challenger, Esther let every Jewish descendant know that they have the right to assemble to defend themselves against anyone who still wanted to fulfill the previous law made by Haman. Think about it, that law by Haman was still in effect through out a massive empire miles upon miles long. So the only way to defend or possibly end it, was to challenge it, assemble and defend it. The Jewish population was fearing for their lives for months till Queen Esther & Mordecai wrote the new law. Before that the jew’s hands were tied. They had to live daily knowing they couldn’t do anything about it since the law was signed by the king’s ring. How terrifying was that. How can you even live like that?

How terrifying is it to go through something and have no solutions or answers for it.

Now we all know war is not the only time to assemble or come together. I want you to think about something difficult happening in your life where it feels like an internal war going on somewhat. Take the situation and think about how you need God, your support group to “assemble” and be there for you. How powerful is that.

How powerful was Queen Esther writing a law allowing her people to defend themselves and assemble. How powerful was it when Captain America at first was standing there alone against a massive Thanos army, but all of a sudden the portal opens behind him and ALL his Back Up arrived from Thor, Iron Man, Dr. Strange, the Hulk, Wankanda, you name it, it was there. I would feel like I could take on anything with that back up.

And honestly I did when my daughter was in the hospital for 120+ days. She had 20% chance to live at first, she had mini brain bleed, then brain cavities were enlarged, she couldn’t absorb her spinal fluid, her vision was questionable and battled 2 bacterial infections. Yet God had everyone assembled around me and my husband to pray & support our baby girl constantly. It was powerful. We had the pray & love of our parents, our massive families, our friends, strangers, nurses and more. This sounds cheesy but, I felt like Captain American myself in those moments. We couldn’t go wrong, we couldn’t lose faith, because our village held us up when needed. They assembled.

And since I’ve been home my support system or village still checks on us all the time. It just touches my heart on how much they care.

That’s God all the way. What a blessing God has given me and you. He gives you support when you focus on Him, he gives us others to support you as well. God wants you to fellowship with others and be amongst other Christians. This is why church gatherings are so important. Spend time with other ppl who share your beliefs. This not only comforts you in your time of need but it also holds you accountable as well. Ask someone how they are doing, they may need the push or comfort. Assemble alike followers of Christ so you are spiritually fulfilled and supported through any challenging time you may experience.

I’m so blessed to say not just my family but my friends are all people I can share my spiritual journey with too. Thank God. So be encouraged and when you are down, remember your village, your support group, your God. Pray for support and God will make them ASSEMBLE.
