Speaker 1:

Hi everyone. This is a special podcast episode honoring my grandmother, who passed away December 16, 2024. I wrote a letter to her and wanted to read it. I know many have lost loved ones in the past and I wanted to just let you know you were heard and also wanted to let you know. Cherish the memories always. That's what's comforting me and my family right now.

Speaker 1:

Dear Grandma, it's your favorite granddaughter, the one in Florida. I'm writing this to you with so much love in my heart. I pray that you are happy, healthy and rejoicing in heaven with our Heavenly Father now. Grandma, you have been such an incredible treasure to our family. What I love about you and I'll say love, not loved, because you are living eternally is how fiercely you cared for us. You would move mountains for your family and even stand up to anyone who crossed us. Your feistiness and the way you held people accountable were unmatched. You kept it real and that's one of the many things I will always cherish about you. You loved us so deeply me, my cousins, my parents and, of course, grandfather. Thank you for holding our family together and teaching us what love and loyalty truly means. As I write this letter and share it on my podcast. I want everyone listening to know what an extraordinary woman you are.

Speaker 1:

My grandmother, peggy Jean Beatty, was a true renaissance woman. She was an entrepreneur who owned her own beauty shop and wig shop, an expert in everything from synthetic wigs to real hair extensions. I mean, grandma, you were an outstanding seamstress, too self-taught. All that. You created prom dresses, countless Easter dresses, my mom's wedding dress, my aunt's wedding dress, elaborate pageant costumes and so much more. Your talent was unparalleled. You were also an amazing writer. If something didn't sit right with you, whether it was the police or city council, you write a letter. Your letters were so powerful they often got published. You loved to read too, devouring book after book. Your passion for reading inspired me to read as well, and that's a gift I will always carry. In your later years, knitting and crocheting became your joy. You made beautiful scarves, sweaters and so many wonderful things. Attending knitting conventions brought you so much happiness, and I loved seeing how much you enjoyed those moments.

Speaker 1:

Grandmama, you were also a gifted singer. With your operatic voice, you graced the church choirs for years. You were just there too. You were always there, present for everything my prom, my first track, meet, my last track, meet my state meets, graduations and even my breakups. You were my rock. One of my fondest memories is how you were always a night owl. When I was in college I called you at 3 am aftera party and you answer like it was the middle of the day. You listened to me ramble about everything, like you were like my personal diary. Not having that anymore is hard, but I thank the Lord for blessing me with you in my life. You were one of my best friends and you still are one of my best friends.

Speaker 1:

You embodied so many qualities of God's love and loyalty. You were like Ruth in the devotion and loyalty. You were like Joshua in faithfulness in your leadership and you were outspoken like Moses when standing up for what was right for his people. You hosted also weekly Bible studies, challenging people to engage deeply in their faith. You were sweet, but if someone crossed the line, you they know it. Yet your compassion always was shown through drawing people to you.

Speaker 1:

Grandmama, you showed me what it means to stand firm in faith while still being kind and compassionate. I hope to reflect even a fraction of what you embodied. Grandmama, I love you and I miss you so much. I don't even know what life without you looks like, but I will figure it out. I know you're in heaven with Mother Deer, miss Millie Ito, with Mother Dear Miss Millie Ito, uncle Chuck, uncle Rob, aunt Eula and all our loved ones. Hug them all for me Until we meet again. Thank you for loving me, teaching me and shaping me into who I am today. With all my love, sweetie Bum, aka Jess, love you. No-transcript.
