Sense of Urgency for Jesus - Day 22

Jessi Morgan Season 1 Episode 89

Text if you need me? Prayer or just need encouragement…

A midnight sky splits with angelic news, and ordinary shepherds make an extraordinary choice: they hurry. We trace that swift move from field to manger and ask what it means for our faith today, how urgency, obedience, and simple testimony can turn Christmas from sentiment into mission.

We start with Luke 2:15–20, reading the moment the shepherds decide to go, see, and then tell. Their response is a masterclass in practical discipleship: no status, no script, just a clear encounter with Jesus and the courage to share it.

You’ll hear a simple framework to practice during the Christmas season: hurry to Jesus in prayer, hurry to people in kindness, and speak plainly about what you’ve seen God do.

SPEAKER_00:

Hello, hello. This is Jesse Morgan Devotions for the Christian Heart Podcast. Welcome, welcome. This year I'm bringing my 25-day Christmas devotional to life in a new way. Beginning on day 11 through day 25, each devotional entry now has a matching mini podcast episode, a simple 8 to 10 minute reflection designed to help you slow down and truly sit with the story of Jesus' birth. Each episode clearly follows the same day as the written devotional, so day 11 in the book is day 11 on the podcast and so forth. My hope is that these daily audio reflections make the journey to Christmas feel even more personal, peaceful, and meaningful. Thank you for being here. Let's go. Sense of Urgency for Jesus. And it says, When the angels had left them, we're just referring to referring to the shepherds, and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about. So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told to them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. Now, have you ever received news or instructions and taken too long to respond, only to realize that later the delay cost you something good or created confusion? That's a terrible place to be, right? Or have you been the one giving the information, fully expecting the other person to act, and they didn't? How frustrating was that? How offensive did it feel? Now hear me out. Can you imagine if the shepherds, after being told by angels about Jesus' birth, waited months or even years to go see him? Verse 16 tells us that the shepherds hurried to see baby Jesus. They didn't hesitate, they didn't overthink it, and after seeing him, they went and spread the news of what they had experienced and encountered. Because of their obedience and urgency, people began talking, and seeds were planted for Jesus' future ministry. Think about this. The shepherds were tending their sheep, their livelihood, and they just left to go see the Savior. What urgency, what obedience. Their work wasn't more important than responding to God's message. They simply went. So here's my challenge to you today. As a believer, are you urgently sh are you urgently sharing the story of Jesus and his salvation? Do you have a sense of urgency when it comes to spreading the good news? And if you don't, have you ever stopped to consider the disappointment God might feel watching you not act? That thought is mind-boggling to me as I continue to grow in my faith these days. As believers, we are called to keep spreading the good news so that more can be saved and covered by the blood of Jesus Christ. So are you knocking the doors to share Jesus Christ? Or are you just taking your time and thinking I don't want to offend anybody? You know, I'll mention it when I can. Which one are you? Urgent or lackadaisical? Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you so much for teaching us about the urgency through the shepherds. Father, help us to keep that urgency when we're sharing the gospel, when we're sharing the incredible birth of Jesus Christ, the incredible life and the salvation of Jesus Christ. Because Lord, we're here to save as many people. We're here to bring as many people with us to heaven. And Father, just continue to continue to help everyone do that. Spread the good news that you have given us through this beautiful, beautiful Christmas story. Father, we love you and we praise you. And we thank you so much for the birth of Jesus Christ. Thank you and bless everyone listening to this podcast today. Father, in Jesus' name, amen. Love you all. Till next time. Thank you for listening. This episode is part of my Christmas devotional series inspired by my written devotional, 25 Days Till Christmas, a scripture-filled journey preparing our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I invite you to read along and reflect on his story in a deeper way. Details in the show notes for the written devotional. And it also says in Scripture, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, goodwill towards men. Luke 2, 14. And don't miss the next reflection in this Christmas series by subscribing to the podcast to continue walking through God's word this season. And a little bit about me. I'm Jesse Morgan, wife, mom, and devotional writer and podcaster who loves sharing biblical encouragement and the hope we find in Jesus. Till next time, Jesse Morgan signing off.
